The Value of organisation

30/3/2011

Organizing your after effects projects is a key part of a successful video. All files should be in the same folder, making it next to impossible for it to stop working. Sadly I broke my own rules and now have to re-edit the whole thing. Talk about shooting myself in the head.

Yay!

Things to be changed in my rough cut

Things to be changed in the rough cut

In The tea section of my trailer i need to

  • Boost colours and change levels to give it a more cinematic effect(This
  • Edit the sound so that the Music can be heard better, without changing the effect in which the diegetic sound gives.
In The golf Section of my film i need to

  • Reshoot the whole section in a quieter surrounding, the current shots are ruined by the background noise
  • Also The Shots need be taken in during the day time as the shots do not work as well as i thought they would at night
  • The New location will be Wexham park golf course

  • The script needs to be slightly changed due to "Mother Fuckers" being inappropriate for a trailer and cant be said on television even after the watershed. This line will be changed to "Alright Losers"

Trailer Rough around the edges

Half Term Filming Flop

Over half term i was set the task to have a complete rough cut for my trailer. i new it was going to be a hard task due to going snowboarding for the week and only having sunday to complete the task. after a truly needed holiday i arrived home and as soon as i got in i called Lewis Brown who was the actor i required for the filming, there was no answer. after a few more calls a few Facebook messages and even a phone call to his girlfriend and no response i had no choice but to wait till the morning, in the morning i managed to get hold of lewis who had been very ill, and could barely function, i went round to find out he'd not left his room in 2 days and had slept for most of that time. i got him out of bed and suited up but, he was a mess and it was unfair to make him film, and also if i had filmed the quality would have been horrific.

by Friday i hope that Lewis has got better and that i have all the footage i need to post a rough cut.

Ending To Trailer

Position: End
Software Used: After Effects

This is the end to my trailer, a sleek, 3D, memorable animated piece. The colours are bright and the text is clear.

Due to the uploaded video being of low quality(speed reasons) You may not be able to see that the circles that pop out of the ground are actually pills, this is significant as the film is about an illegal drug that comes in a pill form called a golden king, hence the name of the film. The pills are all vibrant colours and glow; this makes them appealing to the eye, luring you in to them before the text for golden kings pops up.

Potential Changes
To improve this i would like for the final shot(which is of Garcia and Rodriguez) to merge in to the final clip, i would like to have the final shot of the two characters walking, have everything fade away to reveal the final clip, but have the two characters still walking forward in to the distance. This may require some green screening.

How the first 5 seconds was done

A Small breakdown in to the first 5 seconds of film

The First 5 Seconds of Footage Edited!

The first 5 seconds of footage edited, with sound added yet.

Position: Near the Beginning
Location: Rundown Apartment
Characters: James Rodriguez (James Hall), Marcus "The Money Man"(Luke Franey)
Camera: Extreme Long-shot

The Shot Is set up so that the actors are in the foreground and are walking in to the distance, they walk in to the apartment and that is the only time in which they are out of shot. the reason for such an ELS is to capture the surroundings of the apartment, the grotty car park, the broken and boarded up windows.

The Actors in this shot do not appear to be talking to each-other, they are not discussing anything. Rodriguez is leading the way, because its his apartment, with Marcus just following taking it all in, marcus moves slower than Rodriguez because he is wary of his surroundings.

The original shot in length is very long due to the fact i had to set up the shot, push record, get in to character and once i was happy with the shot run back and turn the camera back off, the shot itself took a very long time to get right, with over 10 takes and a battery change, i was finally happy with this take. i like to start the camera rolling before i start the take anyway because it makes editing easier, if you have a few extra seconds to work with or takeaway as you please it can save on retakes, the same goes for leaving a shot running longer.

The Editing of this piece had to be precise, due to the fact that 50% of the shot was not acting and purely me setting up, chopping off the begging and end wasn't to hard. The cut jumping that you can see was something i introduced to the shot to save a lot of time, if this were a shot in the final film then it would have been much longer, but due to the nature of a trailer i had to cut down on time used, so introducing the cut jumps made the ' overall length a lot shorter but still getting the shot across. the color of the image had to be improved a great deal, as the day of shooting was a very overcast grey day, which gave the shot a flat light and appear very grey. this didn't give off a very good feel. after an hour or so of playing and experimenting i found the perfect combination of light and dark areas whilst boosting the overall color and levels, giving it a far more cinematic effect.
